One command creates the local Phronesis workspace for Claude Code or Codex. The Phronesis macOS app is another door into the same workspace.

One command creates a local workspace for your decisions, reasons, and next steps. There is no questionnaire: bring one real note and start on it. Keep working in Claude Code or Codex. Phronesis uses the model access that surface already has, so a subscription-backed surface needs no Phronesis API key and creates no second model bill.
What gets installed, and how to remove it
The workspace contains a domains/work/ area and a shared codex/ area for durable principles. Add --template personal or --template research for different starting guidance.
By default, the workspace keeps what you bring in and what you approve. If you enable the automatic hooks, the recall check reads each prompt you submit to decide whether saved context applies. By default its event log leaves the prompt text out; the workspace setting event_log.capture_message_text turns that on. Your assistant’s vendor stores conversations under its own settings, separately from Phronesis.
The workspace still starts with that one command. After an interactive run creates it,
init offers to install the persistent phronesis command and a
versioned copy of the CLI under ~/.phronesis/, outside the workspace you chose.
The offer is never automatic: answer no or pass --no-persist to decline.
Scripts opt in with --persist. Remove the managed command later with
phronesis launcher remove.

Download the current release for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. The app is signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

Open the downloaded disk image, drag Phronesis to Applications, then open it. Create a Work, Personal, or Research workspace, or open one you already have. The app downloads verified updates in the background and applies them after you quit. If you have version 0.1.0, download the current release once to enable automatic updates.
Using an assistant inside the app
For model-powered work in the app, connect Anthropic or OpenAI with your own key, or use OpenRouter Connect. This is separate from browsing saved work and from your Claude Code or Codex access. The app keeps the chat text you send in its own local storage on your computer, outside the workspace, whether or not you approve any record.

There is no Phronesis account or cloud vault. Downloading the app does not upload your workspace. The workspace is a directory on your own disk, and the source of truth stays there whether you use the app or bring another AI surface.
