The codex

The codex sits above every door.

The durable principles layer that outlives any single workspace: validated knowledge, frameworks, the wisdom of operators whose taste you respect. A PM door and a Personal door cite the same codex.

One layer, above any single domain.

Your domain workspaces hold your current state: what is true now, per door. The codex holds what survives across them and across time. It is unaffiliated with any one domain and serves every door in your installation — open a second door tomorrow and it draws on the same codex you have already grown.

This is the half of your data, your codex, your moat the moat story rests on. The workspace is where you work; the codex is where your taste accumulates.

Nothing canonicalizes without review.

Two explicit gates sit in the substrate. The compile gate stands between raw material and your curated current state. The promote-to-codex gate stands between that state and the codex. Nothing graduates silently; nothing canonicalizes without your review.

raw/
Append-only source material. Untrusted by default. The compile gate sits after it.
compiled/
Curated current state, per domain. The promote-to-codex gate sits after it.
codex/
Durable principles, above every door. Promotion is reviewed, never automatic.

You start with a codex, not a blank page.

The door ships a codex already seeded with first-party content from operators who already have phronesis in your domain. You begin with structure and content, and you grow it from there. This is the bootstrapping tax removed, seen from the codex side: the part that kills second-brain attempts is already done.

Export it. Run any model. Keep it.

The codex is structured Markdown on your own disk, the same as the rest of the workspace. Export it whenever you like. Run any model against it. Move to a different tool when the next one arrives, and the codex you have built comes with you.

Whatever frontier model arrives next is just better fuel for the codex you have already built. The moat is yours, not ours.

Build the codex once. Carry it through every door, every model, every tool that comes next.
